BENGKULUTERKINI.ID – The Bengkulu City Government has joined the national drive for efficiency by implementing significant budget cuts. This measure aligns with the central government’s efforts to streamline expenditures. This prudent financial management strategy ensures that public money is spent where it truly matters, directly benefiting the residents.
Bengkulu Mayor, Dedy Wahyudi, stated that the cuts are primarily focused on activities that do not directly impact the community, such as official travel expenses.
According to Dedy, the funds generated from this efficiency drive will be redirected towards programs that have a greater effect on citizens, particularly in flood management and the beautification of Bengkulu City.
“Activities that do not directly touch the community, like official travel, will be reduced. We will reallocate the budget to address flooding, repair roads, and make Bengkulu City brighter and more beautiful,” Dedy said on Saturday, November 1, 2025.
Dedy explained that the City Government is currently running the “Thousand Smooth Roads” program, which has already completed asphalt paving at 27 points. Furthermore, the administration has begun installing decorative streetlights to make Bengkulu City appear brighter at night.
“We are cutting the budget in several posts, but priority programs remain on track. Our current focus is on reducing the impact of flooding. Clogged water channels and culverts will be replaced, while areas without proper drainage will have new systems built immediately,” he elaborated. These crucial infrastructure improvements are vital for the city’s long-term resilience against heavy rains and environmental challenges.
Dedy added that road widening and drainage construction are also underway in areas like Padang Serai to facilitate water flow.
“Handling floods, smooth roads, a bright city, and city beautification are our top priorities,” he concluded, emphasizing that cross-departmental coordination continues to be strengthened to accelerate the realization of these programs. (FIRMAN)
