BENGKULUTERKINI.ID – The Directorate of Special Criminal Investigation (Ditreskrimsus) of the Bengkulu Regional Police, through the Sub-directorate of Industry and Trade (Indagsi), has successfully uncovered fraudulent practices in the production of packaged cooking oil. A business perpetrator, the Director of PT Cipta Permata Ibunda, has been named a suspect for allegedly producing and trading palm cooking oil under the brand V 5AWIT that did not comply with the volume or net weight specified on the packaging label. This widespread deceptive activity constitutes a serious breach of consumer trust and mandates immediate legal intervention.
The suspect, identified by the initials JS, a resident of Belitang, East Ogan Komering Ulu Regency, South Sumatra Province, serves as the Director of PT Cipta Permata Ibunda, the company that produced the cooking oil.
Bengkulu Police Head of Public Relations, Senior Commissioner of Police (Kombes Pol) Andy Pramudya Wardana, S.Ik, explained that laboratory examination results proved a deficiency in content.
“For the 800-milliliter package, the test results showed an average content of 706.5 ml, or a shortfall of about 93.5 ml. As for the 1,000-milliliter package, the average content was only 884.5 ml, or a difference of 115.5 ml from the actual size,” Kombes Pol Andy revealed on Monday, November 3, 2025.
He emphasized that these findings confirm that the V 5AWIT cooking oil product did not match the packaging label distributed in the market. “Actions like this clearly harm consumers. This is a form of violation of consumer rights that we must firmly prosecute,” the Head of Public Relations stressed. Police investigations revealed that this deliberate deception significantly impacted consumer purchasing power across multiple regions.
Meanwhile, Head of the Indagsi Sub-directorate, Police Commissioner (Kompol) Jery Antonius Nainggolan S.Ik, disclosed that the fraudulent activity had been carried out by the suspect since February 2025. The product has been marketed in several areas, including Bengkulu.
“During the operation of the business, the suspect distributed 8,174 crates/dozen of the 800 ml packaged cooking oil and about 501 crates/dozen of the 1,000 ml package,” explained Kompol Jery.
For his actions, the suspect is charged under Article 62 Paragraph (1) in conjunction with Article 8 Paragraph (1) letters b and/or c of Law Number 8 of 1999 concerning Consumer Protection, with a maximum penalty of five years in prison or a fine of up to IDR 2 billion.
In the uncovering of this case, the police also seized several pieces of evidence, including 335 crates/dozen of V 5AWIT cooking oil in 800 ml packages, 27 crates/dozen of 1-liter packages, as well as various documents and company files belonging to the suspect. (ANGGI)
